OpenID and Passport
What is new in OpenID, is it a new idea, thought, entrepreneurial idea , none of those?
This is what OpenID has to say about itself (from their website).
" With OpenID Authentication, your username is your URI, and your password (or other credentials) stays safely stored on your OpenID Provider (which you can run yourself, or use a third-party identity provider). "
Microsoft had brought out the same idea of Passport, they even had the domain passport.com for themselves. I think it was about 10 years back. Some sites had put in the passport login.
To those who did not know that Microsoft had actually invented the widgets strange but is true.
Now back to the OpenID bit, everybody is supporting the technology even Yahoo. What has OpenID got that Passport did not have. OpenID does not have the openid.com registered to themselves.
There must be a 100 websites as to how to incorporate OpenID, but Who needs OpenID, or will it only be a success if many corporates accept it and it will be a success only if large corporates incorporates the technology.
Coming back to my question What is new in OpenID, is it a new idea, thought, entrepreneurial idea , none of those? the answer is it is not new but redrawn, with a different color.
For the moment forget OpenID DB being hacked into :D

UNIX Airways
Everyone brings one piece of the plane along when they come to the airport. They all go out on the runway and put the plane together piece by piece, arguing non-stop about what kind of plane they are supposed to be building.
Air DOS
Everybody pushes the airplane until it glides, then they jump on and let the plane coast until it hits the ground again. Then they push again, jump on again, and so on...
Mac Airlines
All the stewards, captains, baggage handlers, and ticket agents look and act exactly the same. Every time you ask questions about details, you are gently but firmly told that you don't need to know, don't want to know, and everything will be done for you without your ever having to know, so just shut up.
Windows Air
The terminal is pretty and colourful, with friendly stewards, easy baggage check and boarding, and a smooth take-off. After about 10 minutes in the air, the plane explodes with no warning whatsoever.
Windows NT Air
Just like Windows Air, but costs more, uses much bigger planes, and takes out all the other aircraft within a 40-mile radius when it explodes.
Windows XP Air
You turn up at the airport,which is under contract to only allow XP Air planes. All the aircraft are identical, brightly coloured and three times as big as they need to be. The signs are huge and all point the same way. Whichever way you go, someone pops up dressed in a cloak and pointed hat insisting you follow him. Your luggage and clothes are taken off you and replaced with an XP Air suit and suitcase identical to everyone around you as this is included in the exorbitant ticket cost. The aircraft will not take off until you have signed a contract. The inflight entertainment promised turns out to be the same Mickey Mouse cartoon repeated over and over again. You have to phone your travel agent before you can have a meal or drink. You are searched regularly throughout the flight. If you go to the toilet twice or more you get charged for a new ticket. No matter what destination you booked you will always end up crash landing at Whistler in Canada.
Linux Air
Disgruntled employees of all the other OS airlines decide to start their own airline. They build the planes, ticket counters, and pave the runways themselves. They charge a small fee to cover the cost of printing the ticket, but you can also download and print the ticket yourself.
When you board the plane, you are given a seat, four bolts, a wrench and a copy of the seat-HOWTO.html. Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the in-flight meal is wonderful. You try to tell customers of the other airlines about the great trip, but all they can say is, "You had to do what with the seat?"

Google sues Polish poets over gmail.pl
Google has launched legal action against a group of Polish poets, demanding that they give up their Internet domain name gmail.pl, a member of the cultural collective said Friday. Google claims the group of poets, known as “Grupa Mlodych Artystow i Literatow,” or Group of Young Artists and Writers, has no rights to gmail.pl.
The group says they are not giving up the name.

A South Korean woman sang 979 songs and set an unofficial world record before collapsing of exhaustion. Kim Seok-ok sang for 59 hours, 48 minutes, beating by 36 minutes the world record set last year by a German man, Yonhap said. A Guinness Book of World Records observer was on hand, but had not yet declared Kim's record official. As Guinness rules allow, she rested 10 minutes each hour. Before the event, Kim told local reporters she entered to encourage her husband, who has a brain tumor.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my
shoulder.I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.
"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married,and have a couple of kids..."
" No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. " I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me. After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three
months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so
let me just tell you what I know."
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!
There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't
take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets." She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose." She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be. When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it! These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

Yahoo Mail Links With IM
Yahoo will soon start to fulfill a promise it made to users several months ago to tie its new Web mail service with its instant messaging application.
Starting today and continuing over the coming months, Yahoo will activate this feature for users of the new version of Yahoo Mail, which is in beta, or test, phase but available to all users of the service.
Yahoo is going the Google way and implementing IM features, its good. Is Google paving the path for new technological improvements.

BVSH house or BUSH house
If the engraving says BVSH then why does the BBC writes BUSH house and they pronounce it as "BUSH".
Designed by Harvey Corbett, Bush House was built in 1923 with further wings added between 1928 and 1935. The building was originally constructed for an Anglo-American trading organisation headed by Irving T. Bush, after whom it is named.
Bush House occupies a dramatic position at the bottom of Kingsway in central London, connected to the Strand on its southern façade. Its particularly impressive portico is flanked by two male statues symbolising Anglo-American friendship, sculpted by the American artist Malvina Hoffman. Over a Celtic altar at the centre of the portico is the inscription ‘Dedicated to the friendship of English-speaking peoples'.

Blogger and Wordpress
Though Google has removed the surname Beta from blogger.com. It kind of remains the same. A new blog is not searchable from google or from its blog search engine.
The interfaces for blogger is appalling. The have just removed the word beta and nothing much is done to do with the change of interfaces. They got no hit counter, one has to put in a code without the xml error.
Once you start a blog in wordpress the blog is search able, atleast they have a new blogs list and it shows up there. And if you get good number of hits, it shows up in the growing blogs list. Its shows up via the tags based browsing. The interfaces and more upgrades are coming in.
To be honest blogger looks more like from the toon than for serious bloggers.

Secrets of an open university - IGNOU
It's touted as the world’s biggest distant learning centre with more than 1.5 million students in 125 programmes. Since its inception 21 years ago, 3.2 million students have enrolled with it. Its mission is to take education to the "unreached". That’s a short introduction to the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou), recognized by the UN.
Now look at these facts. Between 1996 and 2002, nearly 68% of the students enrolling with it were women and of them only 2.5% have actually passed. Of the more than 1.64 lakh students enrolled in the BA course in these six years, nearly 75,000 dropped out.
India’s distance learning establishments, consisting of Ignou, 13 state open universities and 106 other institutions, are projected as an answer to the biggest problem of our education system — that only 9% of those in the 17-23 years age bracket have access to higher education. But are these centres delivering on the job given to them?
Ignou and other distant learning institutions lead below-the-radar existence — they are rarely under scrutiny.

How do you rate a programmer, even better rate yourself to other programmers if you are a programmer
Me a programmer and I know JavaScript, PHP, Java, C, C++, VB, Ruby, Perl. Enough of me What about you. How many languages do you know.
So what makes you or me a good programmer.
- Is it the number of programming languages mastered and can be used with fluency.
- Is it the applications created with these languages.
- Is it that the applications created with the languages you know are liked by the end-users.
- Is it the applications are better from what others have created.
- Is it the logic behind the coding or way the code is written.
- Is it the UI, well for one thing. The credit for the UI has to be given to graphic designers
- Speaking of graphics, could one be a programmer and be an expert in graphics. That would be great because that person would do 2 jobs in one or will have a good understanding when coding as it will be easy on the graphic designer.

Why we need widgets and there is going to be no war
Seriously why do we ever need widgets, to do what with these small sized, RAM hogging applications.
Yahoo, apple and now Microsoft with vista. Everyone can have a look at the HDD space, RAM being used, but why would you want something to be stacked on the side of the monitor taking up space and showing you every time, something you do not want to have a look at.
There are wordpress and typepad widgets, in short widgets for blogs. These are installed in the sidebars of the respective blogs.
Anyone can create a widges and with little effort can make it graphically excellent to look at and may even be popular.
Widgets will not make it to the mainstream, it may trickle a little with Vista.
Why would the tech evangelist speak about widgets wars, its good that there is not going to be any widgets wars. The tech world will be more interested in the PS 4 version, the zune phone, the apple invention. With respect to the apple inventions let me say that they have created a look for any product they produce.
Then there might be widgets on phone, yeah keep looking at the widgets on the smart phone or windows mobile or the symbian ones

Put your Mac to sleep remotely via eMail or Text Message
- Create an AppleScript, so launch Script Editor (in /Applications -> Utilities), containing the following three lines:

- Save this script as SleepMac (or whatever, as long as you can find it later)
- Launch Mail.app
- Open Mail’s Preferences and click on the Rules icon in the toolbar. When the Rules panel appears, click Add Rule. In the new window that appears, give your rule a name (Sleep Mac) and then create a set of conditions to insure that the rule will only act on the e-mails you want it to act on. This can be any combination of sender, recipient, subject, content, and so forth that you like.

high squeaky voices for cartoon characters without even trying. Anyway, Tom Kenny provides the famous, and annoying voice for SpongeBob SquarePants and the forgotten Heffer Wolfe from Rocko's Modern Life.
Cree Summer
Who would have thought that Freddie Brooks from A Different World was such a gifted voice-over actress. Cree Summer gave us the voices for Penny from Inspector Gadget and little Susie Carmichael from Rugrats. Summer is still active in voice-overs and has projects lined up.
Townsend Coleman
With a first name like Townsend, you know this guy was perfect to voice a turtle who's a real stoner. Townsend Coleman created the voices for Michaelangelo from TMNT and the Tick from The Tick. Coleman is now doing voice work for the entire NBC network.
Danny Cooksey
If somebody told you that Bobby Budnick from Salute Your Shorts was a voice-over artist, you probably would've done nothing at all. Danny Cooksey provided his talented voice for Montana Max from Tiny Toon Adventures and Urchin from The Little Mermaid.

Deputy James Garcia has some voice-over work under his damn belt. Carlos Alazraqui helped voice Rocko from Rocko's Modern Life and the Chihuahua from those Taco Bell commercials. I know the chihuahua isn't a cartoon, but the dog looked like an animation anyway.

Failed to save Local Policy Database in Windows XP
I got the error failed to save local policy database in winxp. This pc was not connected to any domain, that may corrupt the local policy database. I googled and yahooed, but got no answer.
I even saw these from technet
To verify and restore secedit.sdb
1. Determine if secedit.sdb is corrupt by running esentutl /g %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb.
2. Try to restore secedit.sdb from a backup before the problem started.
3. If secedit.sdb is corrupt, attempt a soft recovery first by running esentutl /r edb in the %windir%\security directory.
4. If soft recovery fails, attempt a repair with esentutl /p %windir%\security\Database\secedit.sdb. Then delete the log files %windir%\security\*edb* and %windir%\security\*log.
5. Rebuild secedit.sdb. Delete the following files: %windir%\security\*edb*, %windir%\security\*log, and %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb.
6. Restart the computer.
Did not solve either
I too a copy of the secedit.sdb from the path /windows/security/database/ and copied on to my system and rebooted.

25 Tips to Lockdown Your SharePoint Environment
1. Configure Firewall Rules lock down to most restrictive w/ acceptable level of usability (i.e. outbound HTTP)
2. Secure client communication with trusted SSL certificates (128bit HTTPS)
3. Use IPSEC Require mode between servers (Policy) Especially for secure communication between servers and DCs * Be careful with NLB. You can do also this on your Intranet with request mode, I recommend not using client require mode for non windows and legacy clients (MAC/Unix/Win 98)
4. Enable Kerberos Authentication (Intranet) *Careful with NLB
5. SQL SSL encrypted Traffic + Non Standard Port
6. Configure Central Admin on public internet facing servers on non routable IP (Index Server) Configure 2 factor and double hop access. i.e. 2 Factor auth VPN to TS to administration server to administer farm with specific IP rules to TS box.
7. Restrict IP Traffic on Central Admin and SSP App Pools (IIS)
8. Configure Deny Policies (Not Auth Users) on Content/Admin Web Apps for Applicable Groups/Domains, configure deny policy for Server Admins on all web apps (use Special non privileged accounts for administration of SharePoint farm)
9. Configure ISA Secure Publishing (or reverse hosting) better than Router ACLs (Rejects Invalid Requests and Verbs)
10. Configure at least 1 DMZ aka 2+ Firewalls/Interfaces between corp and publicly addressable Internet (ISA 2006 Recommended)
11. Test/Run Windows R2 Server SCW (Security Configuration Wizard) (Custom Template)
12. Consider Basic over SSL alternatives… SSL with FBA with Expiring Cookies
13. Configure and enforce Auditing Policies on Site Collections (Solution Deployment & Timer job), Enable WSS & MOSS Usage Reporting
14. Remove unused server side extensions (i.e. ASP, HTA, IDX, etc..) and unused .NET extensions and verbs (Debug)
15. Disable the Web Services that are not used. i.e. SSP & Central Admin
16. Ensure that Any Auth traffic is secured between DC & Servers (IPSEC)
17. Ensure inbound email services are configured for auth users, and lock down SMTP/Outbound to allow only specific IPs
18. Stop unused services (this will require testing)
19. Configure Site Collection Quotas
20. Increase blocked file types to include non approved content
21. Install Antivirus Protection (Recommended FrontBridge with Inbound scanning and regular scan of all at a minimum, filter content as well)
22. Monitor for suspicious activity & Review #Failed Login Attempts Security Logs – Use Black Ice or other intrusion Detection software on all servers in the farm with reporting and alerting
23. Lock down SSC (Self Service Creation) to few trusted Support/Service groups
24. Run service accounts with domain accounts, run SSP and Central admin with different service accounts (ensure these accounts have no special rights)
25. Lock down SQL with relevant lockdown/hardening guides, remove server admin role and rights
